Rebecca

I understand that when sad, bad or scary events happen throughout our lives (no matter how BIG or how SMALL!), it can change how we see the world and ourselves. Trauma can result in a variety of symptoms including; memories or feelings that show up unexpectedly, avoiding certain activities, unexpected thoughts or mood changes, or feeling constantly on alert. We often think of traumatic events as major incidents (i.e. a car crash or physical or sexual assault). However, Trauma comes in all shapes and sizes, that include the accumulation of smaller or unrelated stressful events over time.

Together we will work through a process of establishing a sense of calm, grounded, safety in your current moment, and then explore the events that may be contributing to your difficulties in coping. Processing traumatic events can be done in many ways, one of which is EMDR. This approach has been shown to be particularly effective in helping clients understand these events, change their underlying beliefs and resolve their symptoms.

Areas of counselling include:

  • Anxiety and Depression
  • Mental Health Issues
  • Coping strategies, self-care
  • Boundary setting in relationships
  • Recent or Historical Trauma
  • Complex Trauma
  • Dissociative Symptoms

A bit more about me

Using a variety of clinical approaches, I seek to help clients stabilize and recover after stressful life events. I have been working as a Registered Social Worker for the past 10 years in a variety of different roles, offering clinical support to adolescents, young adults and adults.

I tend to approach each client’s needs on an individual basis, understanding their strengths and needs and draw as needed from a variety of evidence-based approaches including; Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT).

In addition to my work with my clients, I offer clinical supervision for MSW’s, RP’s and RPQ’s focused on safe and effective use of self, management of complex cases and supporting clients with trauma histories.
